What a day on natural ice looks like, what to bring, and how sign-up and payment work.
At Novakse you skate on natural ice through stunning winter landscapes. With comfortable accommodation and a trip that is personally arranged for you.
All trips are independent as standard, without guidance on the ice. At Orsa and Falun you can add guidance on the ice. There are also guided group trips to Orsa and Falun, on a fixed date.

The ice decides where you go
Our skating trips always depend on weather conditions and ice quality. You skate independently: you choose where you skate and decide yourself whether the conditions suit your experience and level. That does ask that you can judge for yourself whether the ice is safe.
That also means: no two days are the same, and no one can promise in advance exactly where you'll skate.
What you bring yourself
- Your own skating equipment - for natural ice we recommend touring skates
- Winter clothing you can spend a whole day outside in
- Safety gear: ice picks and a helmet are mandatory
You'll receive a packing list and advice on what you need beforehand.
Good to know
- Any price changes are communicated at least 4 weeks before departure
- Complaints must be submitted in writing within 14 days of the trip; you'll get a reply within 14 days
- Travel and cancellation insurance are not included in the trip price; check that your insurance covers skating on natural ice

What if the ice or weather isn't good enough?
Our skating trips always depend on weather conditions and ice quality. No guided replacement programme is included: you choose yourself where you skate or what you do instead.
How does payment and cancellation work?
You pay the full trip price in one go at booking. Cancel more than 8 weeks in advance and you pay 25% of the trip price. From 8 to 4 weeks it is 50%, from 4 to 2 weeks 75%, and after that 100%.
What skating equipment do I need?
You bring your own skating equipment, winter clothing and safety gear. You'll receive a packing list and advice on what you need beforehand. For natural ice we recommend touring skates; ice picks and a helmet are mandatory.
Do I need to be a good skater?
You don't need to be a competitive skater, but you do need to be able to keep going independently for a full day. Because you skate independently, you also need to be able to judge for yourself whether the ice is safe. Not sure about your level? Just ask - together we'll figure out which trip suits you.
