Being outside, in nature, that's what it's all about for me. Skating on natural ice gives an unmatched sense of freedom.
It's not a controlled ice rink, but something you have to read, understand and respect. Every day on natural ice is different - the wind, the light, the conditions. Those sunny, windless days especially are magical. I want people to experience that, because in our society we don't stop to notice it enough.
My background is in skating. I've been skating since I was a child and built up a lot of experience on natural ice over the years. I later trained as a sports instructor and gained a lot of experience at the 11shop in the Elfstedenhal, where I worked with skating equipment and sharpening. But in the end, it's not about performance for me - it's about experiencing the skating and the nature around it.
